Education in Minembwe

School fees for 40+ children in Minembwe—a cornerstone of CHACHU’s mission since 2016.

Ongoing

The challenge

In Minembwe, many Banyamulenge families struggle to pay school fees. When tuition goes unpaid, children are sent home—sometimes for good. Education becomes a privilege instead of a right.

CHACHU was founded in 2016 by university students who believed their generation could be leaven for change. Today, that change looks like keeping children in class.

Who we serve

Banyamulenge youth and families in Minembwe, Democratic Republic of the Congo.

40+ students currently supported through school fee assistance.

What we do

When families cannot afford school fees, CHACHU steps in to cover tuition directly. There are no overhead costs for paid staff—volunteers in the diaspora coordinate fundraising and disbursement with families and schools on the ground.

Tuition coverage

Direct payment of school fees so children are not turned away from class.

Year-round support

Assistance continues each school year as long as funding allows.

Community-rooted

Led by diaspora volunteers with deep ties to Minembwe.

How it works

2

Contributions from the diaspora and supporters worldwide fund the program.

3

Fees are paid

CHACHU covers tuition so students stay enrolled and learning.

Why education matters

CHACHU’s motto is A Wealthy and Healthy Community. Education is the surest path toward that vision—it gives young people skills, opportunity, and the ability to serve their community in return.

In Swahili, chachu means leaven. One educated child can influence many. One caring donor can keep a classroom full.
